President Trump pardoned Ross Ulbricht, founder of the Silk Road dark web marketplace, known for facilitating illegal drug sales. The announcement was made on Truth Social, citing Ulbricht’s mother and Libertarian values as reasons. Ulbricht, who received a life sentence in 2015, had long been viewed by Libertarians as a victim of government overreach..

🗒️ OpenAI teams up with SoftBank and Oracle on $500 billion data center project

OpenAI has partnered with SoftBank, Oracle, and other major players to launch the Stargate Project, a $500 billion initiative to build AI data centers across the U.S. The venture, aimed at securing American leadership in AI, promises to create hundreds of thousands of jobs and provide critical infrastructure for advanced AI systems. 

🗒️ Musk clashes with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman over Trump-supported Stargate AI data center project

Elon Musk criticized the $500 billion Stargate AI project, a joint venture backed by OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle, calling it financially unviable despite President Trump’s strong endorsement. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman defended the initiative, highlighting its national importance and potential economic benefits. The feud reflects deeper tensions between Musk and Altman, rooted in past disputes over OpenAI’s direction and Musk’s rival AI ventures.

🗒️ Perplexity launches Sonar API, enabling enterprise AI search integration

Perplexity has introduced the Sonar API, allowing businesses to integrate its generative AI-powered search technology into applications. The service offers two tiers: a fast and affordable Sonar API for basic queries, and Sonar Pro for complex, compliance-driven tasks, including expanded features like multi-step queries and customized sources. As OpenAI and Google’s competitor, Perplexity aims to address enterprise needs with real-time data retrieval and citation-backed results while focusing on industries like healthcare and finance.

 🗒️ YouTuber MrBeast joins bid to buy TikTok

Jimmy Donaldson, better known as MrBeast, has joined a group of U.S. investors attempting to purchase TikTok's American operations amidst national security concerns over its Chinese parent company, ByteDance. The group, led by Jesse Tinsley of Employer.com, is backed by institutional investors and represented by the law firm Paul Hastings, though details of the bid remain undisclosed. ByteDance and MrBeast’s team have yet to comment on the proposal.

🗒️ AngelList and CoinList partner to help crypto startups raise and manage funds

AngelList and CoinList have partnered to launch crypto-focused investment tools, including special purpose vehicles (SPVs) and roll-up vehicles (RUVs), enabling crypto startups to raise funds using stablecoins like USDC. These tools streamline fundraising by simplifying compliance and allowing startups to manage large groups of investors efficiently.

Raised: $150 million round co-led by Sequoia Capital and Paradigm.

➡️ Instabase, a company providing a platform to automate the processing of unstructured data.

Raised: $100 million Series D round led by QIA, with Greylock Partners, NEA, Andreessen Horowitz, and Index Ventures participating.

➡️ Netradyne, a company using advanced cameras and sensors to monitor driving behavior.

➡️ Shield AI, a company building drones and AI software for military use.

Raised: $200 million round at a $5 billion valuation, with Palantir, Airbus, L3 Harris, Andreessen Horowitz, Point72, and Riot Ventures also joining.

➡️ Umoja Biopharma, a startup developing in vivo CAR T-cell therapies to generate cancer-fighting cells.

Raised: $100 million Series C round co-led by Double Point Ventures and DCVC Bio, with ARK Invest, Cormorant, MPM Capital, Qiming Venture Partners USA, RTW Investments, Alexandria Venture Investments, SoftBank, CaaS Capital, Emerson Collective, K2 HealthVentures, Myeloma Investment Fund, and the University of Minnesota Endowment joining.
